Manufacturing Engineer

Position Summary: The role is for a high-energy, detail-oriented engineer to join our engineering and production team to support the diverse product line. In this role, you will be the technical bridge between design and execution, providing hands-on support for all departments focusing on injection molding, precision OD grinding, CNC machining, spot-welded and assembly operations. Primary focus will be to stabilize and optimize production processes, develop robust work instructions that align with ISO 9001 standards, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste. A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced every improving environment is critical. This position is vital in building a strong culture of collaboration and innovation at QLA.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Process Optimization: Develop and refine manufacturing processes for injection molding, CNC machining, and OD grinding to improve cycle times and reduce scrap. Create SOPs and Work Instructions as well as assist QA in developing measurement techniques.
  • Programming: Work with CNC mills, CNC lathes, CNC grinders, CMM, optical systems, ovens and other specialized equipment to create and validate programs and set ups. Establish cutting tooling, abrasives and other consumables for production.
  • Fixturing: Design and implement jigs, fixtures, and specialized tooling for CNC, QA, Welding, Electropolishing and other areas to ensure repeatable quality and operator safety.
  • Engineering: Support engineering and sales with manufacturability analysis, technical support and CAD/blueprint support.
  • Equipment Validation: Assist in validating new equipment, equipment returning to service and Assist in the installation and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) of new machinery, ensuring all equipment is calibrated and integrated into the preventative maintenance program.
  • Continuous Improvement: Assist in cost reduction projects through 5S, Kaizen, and workflow optimization to improve productivity. Work towards Six Sigma and Lean certifications.
  • Production/Maintenance: Support production/maintenance as needed.

Skills and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of materials such as steels, aluminum, brass, copper, plastics and glass
  • CAD software proficiency - Solidworks preferred
  • CAM software proficiency - Mastercam 3 axis and lathe a plus
  • Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency
  • Position requires good mathematical ability, SPC and the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, work instructions, CNC programs and technical diagrams.
  • Position requires the ability to operate precision measuring devices such as CMM’s optical comparators, calipers, micrometers, scales.
  • Position requires the ability to operate manual machining equipment, CNC machining equipment, plastic injection molding equipment and automated measuring equipment
Physical Requirements:
  • Required to bend, lift, and push up to 50 pounds. Employees should not be lifting materials off pallets without being asked to do so by their Manager and only after using provided protective equipment. 
  • Frequent sitting, standing, stopping and walking, and use of phones and computers.
  • Must be able to read and write work instructions.
  • Employees must adhere to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements at all times.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme temperature changes, cold and warm temperatures, and loud noise.
