Controller
Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for the overall management, accuracy, and integrity of the company’s accounting, finance, and human resources functions. This role ensures timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and effective people operations in a regulated manufacturing environment. The Controller will partner closely with  leadership and the management team to provide financial visibility, support decision-making, and maintain compliant HR and payroll practices in a lean, hands-on organization.
 
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management
  • Own all day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including variance analysis and management reporting
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and segregation of duties
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning in alignment with company goals
  • Oversee cost accounting and inventory accounting for a manufacturing environment, including labor, overhead, and material costing
  • Partner with operations to analyze margins, production variances, labor efficiency, and inventory valuation
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and work directly with external accounting firms, auditors, and tax advisors
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to ownership
 
Human Resources & Payroll Oversight
  • Complete payroll processing and ensure accurate, timely payroll execution in compliance with federal, state and local regulations
  • Administer employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, and related vendor relationships
  • Maintain employee records, onboarding, offboarding, and documentation in compliance with employment regulations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and reporting requirements
  • Support performance review cycles, compensation tracking, and employee data management
  • Maintain and update employee handbook, policies, and internal procedures
  • Serve as a point of contact for leadership on employee relations, policy interpretation, and HR administration
 
Compliance, Controls & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and reporting requirements, including those relevant to a medical manufacturing environment
  • Maintain strong audit readiness across financial and payroll processes
  • Identify risks, control gaps, and process improvement opportunities
  • Support business insurance renewals, workers’ compensation audits, and related compliance activities
 
Systems, Tools & Data Management
  • Serve as system owner for accounting, payroll, and HR-related platforms
  • Maintain and optimize the company’s ERP or accounting system for financial accuracy, inventory valuation, and reporting
  • Ensure proper integration between accounting, payroll, HR, and operational systems
  • Build and maintain financial models, dashboards, and reports using Excel and system-generated data
  • Support system upgrades, implementations, and process automation initiatives
  • Train internal users on financial systems, reporting tools, and internal procedures as needed
 
Systems & Tools Experience (Required / Preferred)
  • ERP or accounting systems used in manufacturing environments (i.e. Quickbooks)
  • Payroll systems (ADP experince preferred by not required.)
  • HRIS platforms for employee records and benefits administration
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and financial modeling
  • General ledger, AP/AR, inventory, and cost accounting modules
  • Experience supporting audits and system-based internal controls
  • Exposure to document management and record retention systems preferred
 
Leadership & Cross-Functional Support
  • Partner closely with all departments
  • Provide financial insight to support pricing, staffing, capital investment, and growth decisions
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across finance, HR, and operations
  • Operate as a visible, accessible leader in a small-team, onsite environment
 
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing
  • Prior experience overseeing payroll and HR administration
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and manufacturing financials
  • Experience working in a regulated or compliance-driven environment preferred
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with the ability to operate independently
  • Strong judgment, organization, and follow-through
