Director of Design

Village Handcrafted Cabinetry is looking for an experienced Director of Design to lead our Design Department. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys developing people as much as creating exceptional designs.

As Director of Design, you'll lead a team of talented designers while remaining actively involved in high-end custom cabinetry projects. You'll set the standard for design excellence, improve department performance, mentor and develop your team, and work closely with Sales, Engineering, Production, and Installation to deliver an outstanding customer experience.

What You'll Do

• Lead, coach, and develop the Design team while setting clear expectations for quality, productivity, and customer service.
• Hold team members accountable through regular coaching, performance feedback, and ongoing development.
• Personally manage complex or high-profile custom cabinetry projects from concept through production.
• Review and approve designs to ensure they are accurate, functional, and ready for Engineering and Production.
• Balance department workload to meet project deadlines while maintaining design quality.
• Partner with Sales, Engineering, Production, Project Management, and Installation to ensure projects move smoothly from design through installation.
• Meet with homeowners, builders, architects, interior designers, and trade partners to support successful project outcomes.
• Improve department processes, increase efficiency, and reduce rework.
• Support business development by participating in client presentations, networking opportunities, and industry events.
• Oversee the showroom to ensure it reflects Village's craftsmanship, products, and brand.

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of experience in custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, residential design, or a related industry.
• 5+ years leading or managing a professional design team.
• Strong experience with Cabinet Vision or similar cabinetry design software.
• Thorough understanding of residential construction methods and custom cabinetry manufacturing.
• Proven ability to lead people, solve problems, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
• A leader who enjoys mentoring others while remaining actively involved in design work.
