A Credit Union located in Rockville, MD with 8 locations and over 39,000 members, seeks a VP of Lending.  The credit union is looking for an experienced executive to assist in managing the lending function of the credit union.  The candidate will demonstrate a high level of competence and have a proven track record of success in managing and continuing to grow consumer lending, mortgage sales, mortgage operations and mortgage servicing, while minimizing loan delinquencies and losses.  The ability to function and manage at a strategic level and accept accountability for results is essential. The VP of Lending will be  a strong leader, that is performance driven with a  hands-on approach in managing the  growth and development of all areas of the loan department.  Furthermore, the VP of Lending will be a strong collaborator and work well with management counterparts to push forward the strategic objectives of the organization.  Must have strong business judgement and make sound and prudent decisions.
Essential Functions:
  • Executive level responsibility for the management of all applicable regulatory compliance (FCRA/FACTA, TRID, etc.); must have experience working in Agency (FNMA/ FHLMC), Investor (FAMC) and Portfolio environments; must have experience managing  the entire mortgage lending process:
    • Loan Origination
    • Processing
    • Underwriting
    • Closing
    • Post-Closing/ Delivery
    • Servicing
  • Must have experience with fixed and adjustable rate loan products for both first and second trusts (including HELOCs) in a multi-state environment.
  • Must be well versed in operating in the secondary market environment (Agency & Investor) relative to pricing and delivery.

  • Must be well versed with regulatory requirements as they pertain to Mortgage loan servicing (HMDA, Escrow management)
  • Must be well versed in dealing with risk-based pricing and must be familiar with the requirements relative to multi-state auto titling.
  • Develop leadership within areas of responsibility and ensure a culture of professional development through coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Ensure member satisfaction with all loan channels, loan related products/services and points of contact with credit union lending areas.
  • Develop strategies for continued growth of loan products, profitability and efficiency, while ensuring alignment with strategic goals and direction. 
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a sales culture in all lending areas and growing the consumer and mortgage lending portfolios.
  • Create, manage and monitor credit union strategic plans, initiatives, metrics and the annual operating budget for all lending related departments.
  • Maintain and review monthly statistics on management and reports to evaluate quality loan applications submitted and the quality of loan decisions made by underwriters.
  • Direct the development and implementation of the annual budget for Consumer and Mortgage Lending Departments. 
  • Perform random and periodic monitoring of lending activity to assure appropriate lending decisions are being made by staff and loans are within the guidelines of the credit union.
  • Provide overall strategic direction, leadership and day to day management for Lending, Loan Servicing and Collections programs.
  • Maintain responsibility for all compliance related requirements in lending and collections.
  • Responsible for managing to all lending related policies and procedures, pricing and loss prevention tools.
  • Evaluate, monitor and report to Senior Vice President of Lending, the effectiveness of credit union lending practices and underwriting guidelines.  Report to management team on lending activities and results on a monthly basis.
  • Represent the credit union internally and externally for lending compliance and NCUA rules/regulations and directives.
  • Participate with department or other staff in community related activities and community services initiatives to promote business development and a positive image of the credit union.
  • Work with Marketing to ensure plans are consistent with established initiatives/goals and are compliant with applicable regulation.
  • Work with IT to ensure that the lending function is keeping pace with the technological advancements developed in the market space.
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related field
  2. Minimum10 years direct experience in banking financial services
  3. Minimum 5 years of direct supervisory experience
  4. Working knowledge of risk based lending
  5. Strong credit background with lending authority. Possess ability to analyze credit reports, appraisals, financial statements, tax returns and other financial documents.
  6. Must be eligible to register and maintain licensing with NMLS system.
  7. Must be knowledgeable and have the ability to ensure the credit union complies with all policies and procedures, applicable laws, regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. 
  8. Experience in managing loan officers, loan originators, loan processors and sales representatives.
  9. Knowledge of applicable federal and state lending regulations.
  10. Strong Microsoft Office Suite knowledge and skills
