General Summary of Position
The Sales Engineer provides accurate specification interpretations that drive the technical evaluation portion of the sales process.  This position requires the candidate to maintain contacts with all of our customers.
Essential Duties
  • Must be able to identify all the relevant technical issues to ensure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process.
  • An ability to establish and maintain strong positive relationships throughout the sales cycle.
  • Provides technical assistance to clients relating to the design and use of products, matching customer needs to appropriate solutions.
  • Provides product demos and samples to qualified customers on request.
  • Reviews projects, blueprints, specifications, customer samples, etc. to develop and prepare cost estimates.
  • Responsible for development and delivery of complete and technically accurate product quotations.
  • Overcomes technical and business objections of prospective customers.
  • Makes outbound lead follow-up calls to potential and existing customers by telephone and email to qualify leads and sell products and services.
  • Emphasizes salable features, quotes prices and credit terms, and prepares sales orders for orders obtained.
  • Prepares bills of material and production routings for all products quoted and/or sold.
  • Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm's production and delivery schedules.
  • Enters new customer data and other sales activity for current customers into computer database.
  • Is a resource for and works with technical sales and manufactures representatives on customer projects and to keep account activities and literature up to date.
  • Works with Quality Assurance Manager to investigate and resolve Customer Service Inquiries.
  • Travels to and attends trade shows.
  • Supports business by working with other internal departments of organization.
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Other projects and duties as required/assigned

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering Degree (Industrial Product Line) or related field required; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to understand other relevant engineering disciplines and the sales process
  • Technical knowledge of manufacturing
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously
  • Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside of the department
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Excellent customer relations skills
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
